Hotel Ungherese

We’d be happy to stay here again. The hotel was spotless, with lovely decor and a beautiful garden, and breakfast and coffee were good. Every staff member was friendly and helpful, especially the woman who welcomed us and shared lots of useful information. As other reviews mention, booking directly through the website means you aren’t charged extra for parking. The parking area is a bit tight with a long or large car, but our Passat-sized estate fit fine.

Breakfast was fine, and the coffee they made there was good, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. We were relieved it was only two nights. The bedroom smelled musty, and the bathroom smelled moldy. After showering, I found a strong cologne smell on my pillowcase, which made it seem like it hadn’t been washed. The next morning, the water in the in-room coffee machine was yellow. The AC also wasn’t working properly, though that may have been because it was 40 degrees outside. They changed the pillowcase after I complained, but didn’t offer an explanation or even say sorry. At checkout, nobody asked how our stay had been. I’m leaving this review so they’ll hear about it.

The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and nicely designed, and we were impressed by their quality and feel during the stay. The problem came after checkout in December. There was no staff member available then who could provide an invoice, so I’ve been asking for one since. I’ve followed up several times over the past months, but have only been given vague promises and still haven’t received it. That lack of basic service is frustrating and unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. It’s left a bad impression after what was otherwise a great stay.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the bartender was great to chat with. I asked for a later checkout and they agreed, as long as I paid the city tax beforehand. It was very cheap. The room was clean and lovely, and ours was in the basement with direct access to the beautiful garden and outdoor bar. I think the bar is seasonal and may be closed in winter. They’d even put mosquito catchers in the room, a nice little detail. At check-in, the receptionist gave us several useful papers with nearby and central restaurant tips, bus instructions, and directions to and from the hotel. The guide helped cut down the walk into the center. We were in Florence for a day, and the hotel is in a quiet residential area, about a 40-minute walk from the main train station. Definitely worth it. Highly recommended.
