This is a welcoming, clean, new place in a very central spot, next to the Giordano Theater in Foggia's historic center. For one night or a few days, it's a good option for the price. There's no reception, everything runs online using electronic codes. Remember to pay by credit card, or the access codes will be deactivated. For parking, there's a large paid lot 100 meters behind the theater, open 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. It costs €1.20 an hour or €6 for the day, and it's free on holidays. While you're here, Vico Teatro is 200 meters from the ancient Church of San Giovanni Battista on Piano della Croce, a place dear to the people of Foggia. The square and churchyard are in poor repair and lack the urban design they deserve, but they reveal the eighteenth-century cisterns used to store grain from the Tavoliere. The way they're presented is disappointing and sloppy. A flat skylight overgrown with weeds and brambles only adds to the sense of dirt and neglect. In the square, a double-sided Renaissance stone cross on a granite column seems to have no architectural connection to the surroundings. It stands opposite the magnificent seventeenth-century portal in soft tuff stone, beautifully decorated and made by the Fanzaghi school. The church door has bronze bas-reliefs from 1999, expertly showing scenes from the lives of St. John the Baptist, Padre Pio, and John Paul II, who visited Foggia on his pastoral journeys. Finally, the iron tubing and ashlar sheet metal ramp for disabled access is a real insult to the monumental value of the church facade.
