Hotel Union

My son stayed here with his school in the first week of February. The hotel was handy for the slopes and the staff were polite, but after just two days, 12 students started vomiting. I understand this wasn't the first suspected food poisoning case, nor the last. I believe investigations are still under way. Most of what I've found is in Italian, so I'm writing this review in English.

By the time we left early Saturday morning, people were still getting sick. More than 60 people from my school and the Italian school had norovirus, and most of our students plus some teachers had felt ill. I still don't know what caused it, though we drank tap water from jugs. On the second night, three boys from my school began vomiting and felt tired; then around 30 students from the other school got sick too. The next day, more people started vomiting. We were initially told it was motion sickness or dehydration, but paramedics, doctors and police came to test the sick students, who were kept in quarantine until the doctors found the cause. Everyone from the other school had left by then. My friends and I also had a rough stay at the hotel. Our shower was broken and had mould on its floor, then the toilet started leaking and the flush stopped working. The carpets were stained and dusty, and hardly any of the plugs worked. I was moved to three different rooms and was still recovering from norovirus when we left. The food wasn't satisfactory either, and the staff were incompetent.

My son and his friends had a miserable trip, and some are still recovering. Most of their school party, about 60 people, came down with norovirus within two days of reaching the hotel. Italian press reports said around 14-16 children were affected, but that doesn't match what happened. Most of the group were ill. There had also been an outbreak two weeks earlier, reportedly affecting 200 people. The hotel clearly hadn't improved its hygiene standards, since the infection spread again.

The rooms were fine and the hotel looks quite good, but our shower only had cold water. The food was another letdown, with quality and variety that seemed questionable.
