Hotel Park Calitto

Avoid this place. We saw a rat by the pool, and there were lots of mosquitoes and feral cats. The room had human hair in every corner and under the beds, and all the drains were clogged and smelly. The toilet seat stayed broken for our entire seven-day stay. Sheets and towels were clean, but stiff as cardboard, apparently washed and air-dried behind the kitchen. Breakfast was disgusting apart from the croissants, which were placed on tables with a limit of one per person. The restaurant was closed for both lunch and dinner. They also charge 3 euros per day to use the AC or mini fridge.

We were disappointed overall, though the hotel did have a few good points. When we stayed at "Hotel Park Calitto" in September 2017, the rooms were clean, the few staff members were very friendly and helpful, and there weren't many other guests. Being close to a bus stop was useful since we relied on public transport around the island. Set away from other hotels and popular places, it was quiet and peaceful. The pools were a plus, with warm water that we found pleasant. On windy or chilly days they were especially nice, though not quite what you want on a hot one. The bigger downside was the distance from the sea. To reach a large, clean beach, we took a bus for about 10-15 minutes to San Angelo, then walked about the same amount of time to Maronti. Other nearby beaches were small, and some were dirty. Breakfast was meagre. There were two kinds of cereal, usually one or two overly sweet juices that needed watering down, milk, two pieces of toast, very thin slices of cake, chocolate spread in a plastic tub, jam, and one croissant per guest. Tea and coffee were available, but both were poor, especially the tea, which tasted awful. There was no meat, eggs, cheese, or proper bread, nothing to make it a good, healthy breakfast. The pillows were very hard, and we woke with terrible headaches and sore necks. WiFi only worked in a room by the entrance, not in the guest rooms, which was inconvenient when we wanted to check email, work, or make a Skype call.

We had a wonderful time in Ischia. The hotel is great for families, with really friendly staff and two pools, one of them heated. The location is convenient too, close to the bus stop.

Breakfast and the room we asked for were just right, and the staff looked after us right through our last day. The property is beautiful, with a thermal pool, and our room was spotless. Parking was excellent too. Mamadou waited by the gate for us each evening until we got back, always smiling.
