B&B Il Mulino

The washing machine was a real treat after days of hiking. We hung everything out on the lines in the fresh mountain air, then relaxed in the roomy family and dining spaces. The kitchen is well equipped, and there's a balcony where you can have your morning coffee. Breakfast had plenty of tasty, healthy choices, and a grocery store is about a kilometer away. We were five Canadian women walking the Via Matildica del Volto Santo from Reggio Emilia to Lucca, and stayed for one night in June 2023, right around the halfway point of our 200 km trek. Katia and Daniele were incredibly welcoming and helpful, including arranging a dinner spot at the local restaurant before the tourist season had started. The B&B sits in a quiet spot with lovely hills around it, and everything was beautifully clean. Two rooms have private bathrooms; the other two share a large one, which worked well for our group. We wished we could have stayed longer to explore the area, and I hope to come back someday. Fontanaluccia is well worth adding to your plans in this part of Italy, with beautiful scenery and crisp mountain air. B&B il Mulino was a great base for our group. Grazie mille, Katia and Daniele. We came for a day of mushroom picking, and the host found us a great setup: two rooms sharing a bathroom, which suited us much better than a standard quadruple. The linens smelled fresh, the beds were very comfortable, and everything was spotless. There are spacious, welcoming common areas, and we loved the breakfast tart. Set in nature, it was completely quiet at night. A thoroughly deserved five stars.

We felt right at home, like we were visiting friends. The kitchen is inviting and fully equipped, and the breakfast was generous and delicious, especially the good quality products and homemade cakes. It's a beautifully furnished, exceptionally clean place surrounded by nature, just right for getting away from city stress. I doubt you'll find the same quality elsewhere. We'll be back, and we'll recommend it to everyone.

We came back for a second stay this year, and it's still so welcoming, like being at home. Catia is lovely, kind, and always ready to help, which really makes a difference. The rooms are very clean and sanitized, and each has a kettle, herbal tea, and two 500 ml bottles of water. Breakfast covers all the bases, with different coffees, cakes, jams, biscuits, sliced bread, and even a milk frother for cappuccino.
