Gasleidhof

We stayed at Gasleidhof for five nights in apartment Lisa, mainly to hike in the area. We picked a farm stay to make our Dolomites trip feel a bit different, and Josef & Josefa Profanter made us feel at home straight away. Lisa was clean, comfortable and quiet, and the hillside location was unusual but easy to find. Other guests had small children who could play in the side yard beside the barn, where the Rabbits and Guinea pigs are kept. Inside the barn were dairy cows, Chickens, equipment and loose hay. The farm has reliable, very good internet, and we could get fresh milk each morning. We didn’t cook in the apartment. We brought coffee and bought cereal for breakfast in town. The local Bakery has a great deli and plenty of other supplies for a picnic lunch or snack, so we were very pleased with the selection. One Sunday, Josef asked us to keep the house locked because he’d be away all day. We learned he was playing accordion at a local folk music festival in Teis/Tiso, so we changed our plans a little and went along. It was a unique event for us and one of the highlights of our stay. Our German is almost nonexistent, but before Josef went on with his band/group, he found two younger servers to help us out. Ordering food and drinks was easy, much less difficult than we’d expected. We really enjoyed being part of this unpublicized music and dance event. I’d recommend asking your hosts wherever you stay whether there are similar events nearby. I almost hate to let everyone in on this gem, in case I can’t book it again. I did have a small snag paying the deposit in Euro to the Italian bank routing details I’d been given. I ended up using western union, after finding an online converter to change the routing information from the U.S. to European format. I can’t say enough about how wonderful the stay was.
