Appartamenti Villa Tonni

Cute and cosy for a short getaway. Just a heads-up if you're tall: the top floor has low ceilings, and I bumped my head quite a bit.

We found Villa Tonni peaceful and relaxing, and the staff were helpful and courteous. The views from its spot overlooking one of the city's loveliest areas were beautiful, with a pleasant walk along the seafront nearby. The apartments are spacious, beautifully furnished and very clean, with thoughtful details that made them feel comfortable and welcoming. We had a really positive stay and can't wait to come back. I'd happily recommend Villa Tonni for a memorable visit.

We stayed for two nights in December, after booking well ahead. I only got the check-in details the day before, by email: reception would be open, and check-in was possible until 8 p.m. When we arrived at 5, though, nobody was there. The website's phone number seemed to lead to a hotel. A recording played, then the call went to voicemail. We tried calling and emailing repeatedly without an answer, then spent 45 minutes walking around the building trying to find out where our apartment was. Eventually a woman showed up. She didn't know what was going on, but called the owner and passed the phone to me. There was no apology. The owner reminded me about the remaining balance and told us the apartment's name, but neither we nor the woman could work out where it was. The owner wasn't on site. Her brother arrived about 15 minutes later and, by chance, showed us the way. Inside, there were signs of a previous stay, I presume: dirty wine glasses on the table, cigarette ends on the terrace and more. The attic apartment had places where I could hit my head, and dangerous steps between rooms. It seemed as though an apartment had been made out of an attic and balcony. A few hours later the owner emailed to ask how things were. I replied asking for a phone number and the Wi-Fi password, both listed in the website description. I sent four emails and never got a response. I'm glad we were there for only two nights. Maybe they're more available in summer, but if they keep the property open in winter, they need to provide the services promised online to the same standard. I won't return. If the owners don't want to welcome guests as promised, I urge them to close the place.
