The boss is a really good man, and it's a nice place.

The host was kind and helpful, and the location is central and handy for getting around town. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with all the essentials. A good choice for a quiet stay.

What a nightmare! Breakfast was brought to me at a dirty table in a place that doubles as a bar, tobacconist, grocery shop, and newsstand, with the owner apparently doing a bit of everything. You can guess what the service was like. There wasn't a clean spot outside to sit, either. At €80 a night for two, which is hotel pricing, they don't clean your room or bathroom in the morning. The stairs up are steep, and at the entrance there's a heap of shoes and slippers from the family downstairs. In the bathroom there was no sealed soap, just products already opened and used by everyone. I'd say avoid it, unless perhaps you're traveling with a baby. A little advice: better to do less and do it properly.

Gagliato is a friendly, sociable place, with people around the little square, a bar, and a few spots serving food. Being up in the hills means summer evenings are cool and peaceful. The owner is easy to reach and willing to help. It also makes a handy base for driving to some of the nicest Ionian coast beaches in just a few minutes, like baia dell ippocampo a Soverato and baia di copanello. This suits people who like moving from beach to beach and place to place within a reasonable drive, rather than having the sea right outside for the usual kind of holiday.
