I’m glad we chose this for our one wine tasting in Tuscany. We went in mid October, when it was a bit out of season, and it felt authentic rather than commercial. The tour covered the part open to the public, which was interesting, and the gardens and grounds were lovely and very well kept. My favorite was the old theatre one of the owners had built. It hasn’t been renovated or touched, and seeing it felt like stepping into the past. The tasting itself was very good, and there was no pressure to buy bottles. It did get a little awkward around the food: some guests had added a plate of cheeses and meats, but it wasn’t clear who had ordered it, so we waited for the others to be served before realizing that food wasn’t part of our option. At the end, the young woman leading the tasting didn’t say it was over, so we all had to guess.

Be careful, the check-in rules at this hotel are very restrictive. We booked a room and arrived at 18:00, but the hotel was closed, and we never got any instructions for checking in. We had to spend two hours at another hotel. Luckily, we had our own car. The hotel still refused to refund us. It felt like an outright rip-off.

The castle has a lovely, magical feel, and the wines and wine staff were amazing. Patrizia, our cooking teacher, was great too. The only small downside was that the receptionists were a bit rude. Apart from that, the place was amazing, and I strongly recommend it.

We come every year for the Eroica bike event, which some participants start as early as 04.30am. In recent years, breakfast was exceptionally available for those early risers. This year we got a plastic package instead as a breakfast replacement, which wasn’t so nice.

The view from our apartment was amazing, and the room itself was comfortable and clean. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, explained everything clearly, and suggested places for dinner.
