B&B Casale Spisari

Good.

The staff were dismissive and unhelpful, and we were charged far more than expected at checkout after an inefficient stay. We spent three nights here. The room had a fridge with drinks and a snack basket, but we didn’t touch them. Even sealed snacks that were still exactly as we found them were charged to us, along with cans of Coca-Cola, which neither my boyfriend nor I drink. We had two small 33-cl beers, a small bottle of water, and a 0.25-cl Schweppes lemonade. That should have come to about €8, but we were billed €24 and weren’t given a chance to compare or check the charges. The room was cramped and uncomfortable. While we were out, someone came in and switched off the air conditioning we’d left on, without warning or our consent. That was a serious invasion of privacy. We came back to a hot, stuffy room. Breakfast was very meager, nowhere near what I’d expect from a buffet. There was a tray with two croissants, a mini pasticciotto, and a fried donut. Since the pasticciotto was tiny, we each took a croissant and a donut. The owner then scolded us and made us put one pastry back, saying we were allowed just one per person. We’ve never had this happen anywhere else we’ve stayed. If it’s presented as a buffet, what’s put out should be available to guests, without restrictions or humiliation. It was an unpleasant stay, with no transparency, uncomfortable rooms, cold treatment, and inflexible rules imposed without respect. We won’t return and can’t recommend the place.

The room suited two people, and the bathroom was clean and roomy. We’d recommend this peaceful B&B in the Salento hinterland, with the beaches about a ten-minute drive away. Annaluisa and her family made us feel welcome, from the welcome drink to the generous homemade breakfast. We’ve just come back from a lovely overnight stay, and you’d be making a good choice to stay here.

We were tired after the trip, but the warm Salento hospitality at Casale Spisari was incredible. The place itself impressed us as soon as we arrived, and so did the elegant welcome. The owner made a five-star breakfast, with cakes filled with fresh jam and all kinds of fruit. I could go on forever. Highly recommended!
