Hotel Villa Peretti

The rooms were a fair size and generally well maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. But the premises need investment. There was damp and disrepair throughout, ants in the bathroom, and the pool area was neglected and nothing like the photos. The hotel is in a remote location. Internet was basically nonexistent at about 0.25 Mbps, while phone data was poor too. WhatsApp calls dropped whichever option we used. Some breakfast buffet items weren’t replenished once they ran out. Don’t bother with lunch or dinner at the restaurant. It’s very poor and expensive, even when it’s open. We were woken every day, seven days a week, at 06:30 by the cleaner dragging heavy wooden furniture across tiled floors. It’s basically become a hotel for Gela refinery contractors during projects.

We stayed for two nights on a half-board basis and quite enjoyed it. The food was as excellent as anywhere in Sicily, and the staff were cordial with good service. Our room was tidy, the bathroom clean, and the air conditioning very good. The hotel has plenty of nicely decorated halls for different functions, and a pleasant, well-kept garden that makes up for the abysmal views around it. The pool, though, was too small and unkempt.

This used to be the best option in the area, and it’s still a good one. I’m writing about an easy, inexpensive fix: the Wi-Fi. It’s the end of 2024, and you can find better internet in Africa, even outside hotels, where connectivity is good. The problem isn’t just speed. The connection drops after 5-10 minutes, then comes back about an hour later. Maybe it depends on the room. I’ve stayed in a few, and room 140 was the worst for connection. Please fix the Wi-Fi issue. Thanks and best regards!

The common areas are spacious and beautiful. Rooms are comfortable, though they’re waiting for maintenance, and breakfast was average. With a place this huge, it feels a bit empty in winter. It must be great in summer.
