B&B Hotel Genova Principe

There are lots of public transport routes passing the rotunda right outside, which was a big plus. I picked this hotel for its location near the train station, and it’s excellent for that. The old building has plenty of history. Our room was spacious and clean, with a great view over the plaza and its beautiful statue of Christopher Columbus. Some paint was peeling, but that was a minor thing. Breakfast is self-serve and fine. Guests can make tea any time and use a microwave, and there was a nice mini fridge in the room. The front desk staff were courteous, professional and attentive.

Staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. It had a fridge, and there’s a kettle by reception. Getting to Castello d’Albertis and Palazzo Reale is easy, and the city centre attractions are a short metro ride away or a longer walk. The hotel is also close to the train station and within walking distance of the cruise port. A few small things could be better: the Wi-Fi cut in and out, there was only one power socket, and the shower felt small for the bathroom. There wasn’t anywhere to hang the hand towel either.

The hotel was clean and well looked after in the areas we saw, and the staff were really friendly. Check-in went smoothly, and the little shop was handy for a late snack or drink. It’s very close to the train station, but walking to the old town felt sketchy, and I wouldn’t have been comfortable going alone. The area right outside the hotel seemed fine, though groups often smoked by the doors, with no designated smoking area that we could see. It wasn’t pleasant walking past them. Our room was large, with plenty of room for bags, clothes and toiletries. The comfortable mattress and pillow were great for sleeping, though one pillow per person wasn’t enough for sitting up or relaxing in bed. I’d usually expect an extra one without having to ask. There was no bin in the room, only in the bathroom, which was a small oddity.

We'd already prepaid for somewhere else, but chose this hotel for how easy it was to get around. It’s right across the street from the train station, with a simple downhill walk of about 5-10 minutes to the cruise terminal. There are restaurants and shops within a couple of minutes. We had a suite with a kitchen, living room and lovely views from several windows. Check-in was smooth, and there were snacks and drinks in the lobby. The breakfast buffet was fabulous and the staff were outstanding.
