Novotel Genova City

Breakfast was good and reasonably priced, and kids eat for free. The staff were very nice and the service was good. We spent one night at Novotel Genova before our MSC cruise, and it worked well for getting to the terminals the next day. For the city center, there’s a bus or metro.

There’s a shared iron by reception, but no iron or board in the rooms. As a business traveler, I needed one and ended up waiting about 25 minutes, carrying my clothes around the lobby. I also had to wait at least 10 minutes for an elevator because one of the building’s only two lifts was broken during my stay. Basic place for somewhere to sleep, and not up to Novotel standards.

I saw my £800 watch on the table the day before checkout. I’d been thinking of going to the seaside, then decided not to take it with me. When I got back to the airport, I checked both of my bags and it wasn’t there. I was in a hurry when I left the hotel, so at first I thought I might have packed it already. That was the only place I’d slept or kept my things, so I believe it disappeared there. I don’t have memory problems, I know what I did, and I’m sure someone at the hotel has it. I called early on Monday after returning to London, since I had to work that night as a club manager. They said they’d ask the housekeeper and call me back. I called again later and got the same answer. It’s been two weeks, and they still haven’t returned my call. I don’t understand what they mean by saying they’ll ask the housekeeper. I stayed at the hotel, but my watch disappeared. How did the cleaners get into the room when I hadn’t asked them to?

Getting to the center on foot isn’t practical. The rooms and reception service were great, though. At breakfast in August, there weren’t enough staff, plates, or food for the huge number of guests.
