Hotel Nuovo Nord

Via Balbi is one of the Strade Nuove, built by the Balbi family in 1655. I wouldn't be surprised if the hotel had once been a wealthy family's noble house, given the traces of that history around the building. The receptionist was friendly and helpful, and my room was nice, though a little dark. Breakfast was okay, but I missed having eggs.

The hotel is very central, with the station right on its doorstep. We booked a superior room, but it was so small that I'm not convinced the upgrade was worth it. The cleaning staff were lovely, though some people at reception and the woman looking after the breakfast room weren't particularly welcoming.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and when we had a small issue with our room, they sorted it out straight away. We had comfortable rooms and enjoyed the good range of reasonably priced breakfast food in a nice breakfast room. There's a comfortable sitting room where we waited for our train. The hotel is very handy for the railway station, with plenty of good restaurants nearby and the port area and old city a short walk away.

I was in Genoa for just one night after my car broke down. I was in a desperate spot, so finding this place at the last minute with no reservation felt very lucky. It's comfortable, nicely decorated, and impeccably clean, which matters most to me when choosing a hotel. The welcome was warm, the staff were friendly and professional, and the location is great, on a busy but pleasant street. My room was quiet despite the traffic and activity outside, and the mattress was comfortable and good quality. The downsides were the tiny shower and a small single room that I felt was a bit pricey at 90€. Still, the stay was very positive, and I recommend the place.
