The view is exhilarating, and the accommodation was very comfortable. It’s about 100 steps up across seven levels, but I managed it with a walking stick and was fine.

The rooftop view over the city is fascinating, and the stay made us feel like locals for a few days. It’s an apartment hotel, so there’s no soundproofing. The location is great, and the amenities are good. The furniture is a mix of Ikea pieces and grandma-style wardrobes. There’s no elevator to the sixth floor, which has high ceilings, and there are more stairs to the attic. The roof is up another staircase, though going up there is optional. There was no shampoo, just liquid soap, but we had a hairdryer and plenty of towels. We stayed three nights and the room wasn’t cleaned at all. Even so, we had a good experience.

The view makes up for the climb to the sixth floor, since there’s no elevator. Il Cielo sui tetti is in Genoa’s characteristic "carrugi" near Piazza De Ferrari, so the location is excellent. The rooms are clean and have the essentials, maybe a few too many, though there wasn’t even a coat hanger in the closet.

The rooftops offer an incredible view. We’re in La Maddalena, in Genoa’s historic center, where the churches and streets are stunning. You really have to see them for yourself.
