Masseria Montedoro

We were there for my niece's communion and found a lovely atmosphere, with a cared-for garden and beautiful rooms. The rooms have been made from a former stop for couriers and carrier pigeons in the last century. Getting there is a little out of the way, though.

The service was impeccable, and the appetizer and first course were excellent. The second course was good too. I was invited to a birthday celebration here and had an unforgettable time. This masseria has a special, almost magical feel, with oranges and lemons adding to the sensational setting. I absolutely have to come back.

We chose this restaurant for an anniversary, mainly drawn by the gorgeous grounds. The garden was well kept, with a pool, fruit trees and two big dogs, and it's a lovely place for photos. The meal was another story. Because it was windy we had to sit indoors, where flies surrounded us the whole time. We asked the waiters to help, but nobody fixed it, and they seemed to brush us off. The food was very poor in both quality and, especially, preparation. It felt like a muddle of traditional cooking and fake gourmet food. Both first courses were tiny and badly cooked and prepared. The fish fillet was the one decent part, though it was odd and full of bones. I'm sorry to say that what I remember from a wonderful day with friends is mostly the beautiful setting. I'd only suggest it for small events, and hope the restaurant's management improves.

The owners deserve credit for creating a REALITY like this. Among citrus trees, olive groves and vineyards, it's a fairytale setting where even a simple event feels special. The homemade food is delicious, distinctive and tempting, and the staff are both courteous and highly qualified. THANK YOU.
