BB Baiamonti

It was filthy.

Getting around was easy: Gorizia's center is close enough to leave the car behind, and there's a sports field parking lot about 20 meters away. The room was decent and had a private bathroom, though hauling suitcases up two flights of stairs was a pain. The price seemed fair, but the service was really poor. When I arrived a little early, nobody was there; at 9:00 a.m. on departure day the owner was still absent, so I had to leave without paying. We arranged a bank transfer by phone, but I don't think morning absence is acceptable when a guest is checking out. Maybe including breakfast would improve things. I stayed one night at the Baiamonti R&B.

The Austrian courtyard, paved with river pebbles, brought back a flood of clear memories from my childhood. I hadn't been back to Gorizia since after the war, and returning last month left me with strange feelings and some sadness at being far from home. I spent one night at this B&B. It's a beautiful place with good food and affordable prices, and its atmosphere captures Gorizia as a border town.

A decent stay close to the center, with a welcoming host who was a bit overzealous. The bathrooms were nice, though there are no bidets, I guess that's the border for you 😂. Breakfast was good, with fruit and yogurt.
