Ellex Eco Hotel

We stayed at the Ellex Hotel last week with our family, and there wasn’t a negative point during the stay. The rooms were clean, with balconies looking out over the village, and breakfast had lots of choice. The man and woman in the breakfast room paid close attention to detail and replenished everything quickly. The reception was fine, and the hotel is in a cul-de-sac right in the center, clean next to the ski elevator. Even before we arrived, contact with the hotel was friendly and smooth. They were happy to help with everything, including arranging other restaurants for us each day. The cleaning staff, the breakfast room team, and Bruna all did an excellent job of looking after us. We only stayed one night, unfortunately, before a tough week of mountenering up on Monte Rosa. This is a small, cosy hotel with 5 star service. The rooms are a good size, our queen size bed was very comfy, and all three rooms in our group had balconies with great views. The receptionist was among the best I’ve encountered: clear, proactive, and helpful. At check-in they suggested we book a restaurant right away since places filled up fast, then called several restaurants until they found us a table. Breakfast was amazing, with a wide variety of mostly local foods. The hotel has a sustainable angle too. The displayed breakfast was all vegetarian, though ham could be requested if you wanted it.

The ski in and out works brilliantly. There’s a great ski locker and hot boot warmers, which made the morning dash for first lift easier. The rooms are lovely, the atmosphere relaxed, and each morning brought a varied, delicious, healthy breakfast. Our many email questions before arrival were answered quickly. After a long day on the mountain, the basement spa with sauna, steam, and warm jacuzzi was so relaxing. The small village has something for everyone, and we were greeted with smiles at all the bars, restaurants, and shops. The skiing was fab, with varied runs and spectacular scenery. Olen, the black run, had my favourite vista. We hope to come back in summer. Thanks to Daniele, Bruna & Florisa for making us all feel so welcome.

Beware. The hotel can’t accommodate older people, anyone who has trouble with stairs, or children under eight. This isn’t mentioned on the website or booking portal, and they won’t refund your money if it turns out to be a problem. We called less than 24 hours after booking to check whether it would suit our child, but the owner seemed to take delight in refusing to refund our deposit. There are many better options in Gressoney.
