Hotel Airone

There are plenty of secure underground parking spaces, which was great for my motorcycle. Breakfast had a good range of choices. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from Old Town. My room was large, with comfortable bedding and a walk-in shower that had plenty of hot water. You can't control the A/C from the room, but it was plenty cold; reception can adjust it if you call.

The location is good, and the free underground parking makes this a decent option if you need to stay in Grosseto. The reception staff and breakfast staff are lovely. Breakfast is typical continental, but the coffee is great. Rooms are made up daily if you want. The rooms need updating and the beds are very hard. Cleaning staff made racist comments to someone in our party. I wouldn't rate it as a 4-star hotel.

The front desk team were warm and helpful, and most staff spoke English. Housekeeping came every day and did a thorough job. The café coffee was a real highlight too, especially the latte and cappuccino made by the younger guy behind the bar. Breakfast is included, with great pastries but a fairly small selection otherwise: some scrambled eggs, very salty American-style bacon, juice and yogurt. The rooms are small, have no microwave or kettle, and the beds are very firm. The hot water was dangerously hot for me and my fiancé, and we struggled to find a comfortable temperature. I was there on a long business trip, and this place doesn't really suit an extended stay. For a weekend or a week away, though, it could work well. I'd give it 2.5 out of 5. I've stayed in worse.

We enjoyed the walk from the hotel into Grosseto's historic center. The room's AC worked just right, and breakfast had a fantastic range of pastries and croissants. Everyone at reception was friendly and ready to help. A great hotel, and one I'd happily recommend if you're in the Grosseto area.
