Appartamento Villa Matone

The village of Grottaferrata is really cute, and the pool is gorgeous. Andrea and Délia welcomed us to their wonderful studio. The furnishings and the location were even better than described. I recommend it without a doubt.

The apartment itself could have been okay, though there were plenty of things that could be improved. The owner, however, was rude and gloomy, answering in single words. He lives in the same house with his family, and the garden and pool are on their side, not the apartment's. We had to ask permission every time we wanted to use the garden and go through the guest entrance rather than the owner's. There are two big dogs in the garden, which made it hard to relax by the pool. Since we had a toddler, the owner asked each time we went out whether the dogs were inside their house. They also left poop in the garden, which nobody cleaned up, and there was a noticeable smell near the pool. My husband first contacted her just to ask the price, not to try to get a lower rate. When she quoted more than the prices on Booking.com and Airbnb, we chose to book through the platform, as anyone would. My mother had to come because of an emergency. We found out three days before she arrived, although her apartment had already been booked two weeks earlier. Nobody was trying to “game the system,” as she says. We paid for my mother and for an extra night; she didn't stay for free. We checked out exactly 30 minutes late because we had a lot to carry to the car, and we apologize for that. I'll let other guests decide for themselves how kind the owner is. I understand this is a source of income, but the business lacks a human touch.

We came for the long weekend around November 1st and were delighted, even though we found the villa by chance. The owners were kind and always ready to help. The apartment had everything we needed, including linens, towels, shower gel, shampoo, coffee, sugar, salt, cookware, and cutlery. There’s a pool, but it wasn’t the right season for us to use it, so we’ll come back for that. Having parking on the property was very helpful with our small child. The villa is also so close to the center of Grottaferrata that we could explore or go out to eat without searching for parking. Many thanks to the owners for their hospitality!

The apartment looks onto the garden and has access to the pool. It’s equipped with a kitchen and all the amenities, and though it’s close to everything, the garden makes it quiet and relaxing. The owners were friendly, helpful, and available whenever we had questions or needed information. I’d recommend it for a short or long stay, whether for work or a holiday.
