Montesalce

The pace at Montesalce is wonderfully slow. Once you get to the Bianco apartment, close the door, and listen to the quiet, it’s easy to put the brakes on too. You hear birds, geese, and the donkey, and watch the sky change through sunrises, sunsets, and mist over the beautiful Valle del Chiascio. It feels like stepping into a fantasy world, and your mind, heart, soul, and animal companion can all breathe. Valeria and Graziano welcomed us warmly to their farmhouse, along with the cheerful "Peloso" reception committee: Mokka, Nero, Sam and Yuma. There are lovely nearby places to explore and long walks on the Via Franciscana from Assisi to Gubbio, but the farm itself makes it tempting to slow down and stay put. Breakfasts are generous and special, and rustic hot dinners arrive in baskets at your door, prepared by their excellent home cook. A special thank you to Valeria and Graziano for sharing this little jewel with us city folks. Mandy loved being able to run free, chased by Mokka and Nero when she wandered into their territory.

I picked this place by chance and have no regrets. My husband, our dog River, and I spent five days in this beautiful, peaceful spot that feels far away from everything. Graziano and Valeria were excellent hosts, and the food was superlative. Thank you, Valeria, for those delicious meals.

We spent five nights at Montesalce with our dog, and it’s a place we’ll keep on our list for another visit. The little houses are lovely, carefully maintained country retreats, with windows framing peaceful views of the farm or valley. Outside, there’s birdsong, the bray of a mother donkey, a rooster, green meadows, and sky all around. It brought back a connection with the Earth that we can easily lose. Valeria and Graziano are kind and friendly, welcoming you like old friends while still being discreet. Having breakfast and dinner delivered in baskets made the stay feel especially personal. Valeria prepares excellent dishes with their own authentic, flavorful products. Thank you for everything, and enjoy your life!

The apartment, the owners’ care, and the sublime dinner and breakfast made our four days here wonderful. Valeria and her husband looked after us so well. My husband and I brought our four Labradors, and they seemed to treat the whole property as a second home, with room to run and play. The farmhouse is a stone’s throw from Gubbio in a peaceful, beautiful setting. We didn’t want to leave and can’t wait to return. Highly recommended, with a big hug from us.
