One of the best places we’ve stayed, and a real highlight of our Italy trip. We were visiting Modena and Maranello, and the stay was spectacular, beautifully decorated, and impeccably maintained. Highly recommended if you want to see more of Italy beyond the big cities and enjoy the countryside.

We spent four nights at beautiful Sotto i Sassi and had such a wonderful, relaxing stay. The rooms and setting were lovely, and our host was amazing. Every meal we had at the restaurant, three out of the four nights, was spectacular, fresh, and delicious. The on-site cooking class was a special experience too. We’d absolutely recommend it and hope to return!

The host really made the stay special, warm and welcoming, and clearly passionate about making things just right. The restaurant was top-notch, with every meal a treat made from fresh local ingredients. Our room had been remodeled with care and style. It’s so calm here, tucked into nature, with postcard-like views. I can’t say enough good things about this cozy place in the beautiful Italian countryside.

Matteo was a gracious host during the relaxing few days my mom and I spent at Sotto i Sassi. Tucked into the mountains, it’s a lovely place to unwind, a small slice of heaven. If you’re there on a Saturday or Sunday, don’t miss breakfast, it’s absolutely delicious. I’d recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Italy beyond the cities.

We returned to Sotto i Sassi in December 2024, and once again we were delighted. The apartment was snug, comfortable, and well furnished. Matteo pays close attention to detail and cares about how guests experience their stay. The setting is serene and beautiful, with I Sassi’s imposing rocks above the property’s woodlands and orchards, and the high Apennines on the horizon. If you’re there over the weekend when the restaurant is open, the food and wine are top notch. Don’t hesitate to stay here.
