New Crostolo Hotel

Antonella was lovely and patiently answered all our questions. Service was excellent throughout. The room was just the right size, with a nice bathroom, and the hotel had everything we wanted for our three-night stay. It's only a few minutes on foot from the port, ferries, buses, and some very nice restaurants.

Our junior suite was beautifully furnished and surprisingly spacious, with two rooms, one holding a king bed and the other a double. The owner was very hospitable. Downstairs there was a bar and breakfast area, where we paid a small amount, $5 per person, for a meal we really enjoyed: toast with homemade jams and marmalade, croissants made by the host, tasty juice, and plenty of coffee choices. The hotel is tastefully decorated and an easy short walk from both the port and town center. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.

I got the reservation date wrong and contacted the hotel five minutes later. They still wouldn't refund me or move the booking, even though rooms were available on the date I actually needed. In the end they agreed to return 50% of the total. Expedia tried to get me a full refund, but the hotel manager refused. It felt like they were taking advantage of a simple mistake I'd made with a click. EDIT: The owner replied below, blaming Expedia and me for why they couldn't issue a full refund. They said they'd spent “all morning” on calls about my case and that Expedia wouldn't allow it. That's false. The manager just wanted to make as much profit as possible. This is the message Expedia sent me: Hello Ernesto, We wanted to follow up after our last conversation, where you asked us to reach out to your property to see if refunding your cancellation fee was possible. We have contacted Black Market Hotel to see if they could make an exception and grant a refund. Unfortunately, after multiple tries, we weren't able to obtain an approval from the property manager to waive the cancellation fee. This means the current rules and restrictions for your booking apply and a refund can't be granted. We're sorry about this; we always try to contact suppliers and advocate for our travelers in these situations. Properties often have strict policies around refunds, and there's nothing more we can do in this case. Again, we're sorry that a refund wasn't possible. The terrace was lovely, and having a view from the room made it a great place to relax. The room had AC, a minibar, TV, hairdryer, and good wifi. Beds were fine, and both the room and bathroom were clean, with towels and shampoo supplied. Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel's well placed: under 10 minutes to the port, about 15 minutes to town and restaurants, and roughly 30 minutes to the castle. I'd definitely stay again.
