There’s no way to leave a review on Booking.com, which is a real shame because that’s where future guests should be able to read this. In the photos, the hotel looks fancy, almost luxurious. Arriving was a shock, and I immediately wondered where the four stars came from. I’d give it two at most. It felt like a Tinder date with someone who looked like Jude Law in the pictures but arrived looking more like Danny DeVito, with all due respect. Out of season, there’s nothing nearby, no restaurant or shop to buy even a bottle of water. Without your own supplies, you’re out of luck. The restaurant was closed, and although breakfast was served in the morning, it was probably the worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. A complete disaster. Almost nothing in the hotel worked, not even the elevator. You could hear every step and every word from the neighboring rooms, so there was practically no privacy. The so-called double bed was two single loungers pushed together that kept sliding apart. It was extremely uncomfortable, and we both ended up with back pain. The whole hotel felt shabby, definitely not like a four-star property. There was no equipment in the room at all, no kettle, coffee or tea, and we were missing slippers for walking to the thermal pool. The pool itself was fairly okay, but the setting felt cold and uninviting, and it was chilly there. The shower by the pool was dirty too. The only reason to come might be the view of the castle. I’d rather look at it from a park bench than stay here again.

The view from our balcony was awesome, and it was the one thing that made up for the other problems. The hotel was very clean, though a little tired, and we had clean linen every day. Breakfast was okay, nothing to write home about: scrambled eggs, bacon, yogurts, croissants and so on. We didn’t realize when booking how many steep steps there were down to the hotel and then further down to the water’s edge. We thought there was a beach, but there wasn’t. Being over 70, I was very nervous that there were no handrails. When the lift broke, nobody offered to help with our luggage on the steep steps, either on arrival or when we left at 5 am. To be honest, I didn’t find the staff very friendly. I’m allergic to seafood, which was a problem because the hotel menu was seafood-based, and there was a big language barrier. Thank goodness for ChatGPT. I wouldn’t stay here again. We’d only paid for breakfast, so the extras added up: we ate two meals at the hotel and had coffee brought to our room each night, but ended up paying an extra 425 euros at the end of our stay.

We weren’t hotel guests, but spent the day on a sunbed through an arrangement with the hotel where we were staying. That was good value. My poor review is about lunch at the Hotel's bistro. Prices were a little high, but not outrageous; the food was good quality and the place was very clean. Still, it really felt like there were two different serving sizes and levels of service depending on where you came from. If you’re Italian, you might be in luck, and I might recommend the place. If you speak English, even if they assume you’re staying at the hotel, you might feel taken advantage of. You may want to give it a miss.

NAME CALLED via email when I tried to rebook. We stayed here and really enjoyed it, and staff told me to book directly next time for a better price. We’re from Australia, 28 hours away, so I tried sending a couple of emails and got no response. Then the hotel quoted me double the price I’d seen on booking.com. When I questioned the charge, someone at the hotel started calling me names by email. I’m devastated and disgusted by how a business treated a paying guest who wanted to return. I’m a happy natured blond lady, and when I asked about being overcharged, they told me to go away Elvira! I advise everyone to stay away from this place. If I ever go back to ischia, I’ll go to reception and speak my mind, because bullying and name-calling are looked down on these days.

We only spent the day on their swimming deck and didn’t stay here. The day bed was EUR 25, considerably cheaper than the neighboring beach clubs. It’s not the fanciest spot, but the bed and umbrella were great, the swimming area was beautiful, and the little beach bar had pretty good food. Staff by the water were great, though the person at reception was a bit rude.
