Fattoria Antica Forconia

Really top-notch!

The lunch was a fun, special experience, and the service was attentive throughout. For our birthday gathering of 13 at Trattoria Antica Forconia, Signora Mara welcomed us warmly. Her dishes were delicious and showed real care and passion. The ingredients come from their own garden, grown organically and naturally as part of the trattoria’s zero-kilometer approach. I’d definitely recommend it.

The Easter Monday lunch ended up lifting the whole stay. We had good cold cuts and cheeses, then two very good first courses; there was so much food that we skipped the optional main. The braised cheek was tender and tasty, and the lamb with egg that I took away was good too. I especially loved the garden salad, which brought back childhood flavors. Dessert was a little strong but good, while the coffee was terrible. The staff were friendly and efficient. The rustic tarts were stale, though, and seemed to have been made for Easter Sunday. The six-night cottage was clean and simply furnished, with almost everything needed, but it’s better suited to two or three days than a longer stay. Little things were missing or worn: no TV remote, kitchen cloths, or hangers for clothes or towels, and some cheap, damaged cookware, including a food container with residue. The closet was just a rail with hangers and shelves for towels. Breakfast looked nice in its basket but was made up of inexpensive items. The homemade tart had good pastry, but the jam tasted like it came from a discount store. We left the tart, juice, and yogurt, then bought a few things ourselves over the next days, even milk. The homemade biscuits and jam were worth keeping, though I’d expect something more refined from a farmhouse. Mario was friendly and affable face to face, but hard to reach remotely. I had to follow up several times to get replies to my booking emails, and after I sent thanks and goodbye, he saw the message but didn’t reply. I had been concerned about the lunch we booked because we had guests, but it was a high point despite the cottage and breakfast shortcomings.

The people were wonderfully courteous, and the food was truly excellent. I had a lovely time and will be back soon. My heartfelt thanks and special compliments to the chef.
