That drive up was picturesque, and the hike was well worth doing. We went in mid-October and had perfect weather. We didn't stay overnight, just did the hike, but stopped for tasty cappuccinos first. The woman serving clearly knew her stuff. I'd recommend it.

The views and atmosphere at the top made this a fantastic visit to Ostello Campo Imperatore, a place often called Italy's “Little Tibet.” Getting there by car now costs 10 euros if you want to drive all the way up and park. Another option is to leave the car near the roundabout at Fonte Cerreto and take the cable car, which costs 8 euros per person for a return trip. We highly recommend visiting.

We got there a little late, but the chef still made us some incredible local food. The gnocchi with mushrooms and truffle, ravioli, melted cheese with truffle, and sheep burger were all part of it. The staff were lovely and welcoming, and it's good for families. Prices are a bit above the local average, but I thought it was worth it. Dogs are welcome too.

I came on my own hoping to get away from Rome's hustle and bustle, and this place exceeded what I expected. My little room was clean, and the staff were really kind. The price felt quite reasonable. For an extra 25€, you can get a really good dinner, with very good vegetarian options too. I'm so glad I got to spend some time at this lovely ostello, and hope to return someday :)

Campo Imperatore is an Abruzzo jewel, absolutely breathtaking. The people here are so lovely and adorable that I couldn't bring myself to leave. I'll definitely come back.
