The breakfast arrangement was a nice way to meet people. There’s no breakfast at the property, but they provide vouchers for coffee and a croissant at two local bakeries. I went to the smaller one, la Reserve, and had a really good time meeting locals and hearing their suggestions for places in town. Adriana is a wonderful hostess, very friendly, and knows so much about the city and region. The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well maintained. It’s in a residential building, and the residents were genuinely nice to guests. Some people say La Spezia isn’t worth a visit, but I disagree. It’s more than an affordable alternative to Cinque Terre hotels. People here are incredibly welcoming, and the town offers an authentic Ligurian experience you may not find in bigger, busier places like Genoa. Take it easy, meet some locals, and try their food and wine.

The woman who looked after us was the best part. Thanks to her. Our room could have been better maintained. It was old, the bed covers had stains, and the walls needed repainting, to give a few examples. It was cold until I mentioned it to the woman, who turned up the central thermostat. The thermostat in our room was already at the highest setting, but it depends on the central one. Don’t pay extra for breakfast. It’s served at a café on the street and consists only of coffee and a croissant. You can get yourselves a proper breakfast for that price. Considering the quality, it was expensive.

We stayed here as a base for a short trip to Cinque Terre, and it was a standard place to stay in La Spezia. The rooms were good and well equipped. They’re on the first floor, with no elevator, and we had to arrange a meeting first to get into the building.

A nice room with AC, and a handy location near the train station. It was a bit of a struggle to fit two open suitcases on the floor, but otherwise the room was good.
