La Taverna Del Metallo

The beer list alone is impressive, and the food deserves even more attention. It was homemade, full of flavor, and clearly made by people who care about what they do. I don't usually go for this kind of atmosphere, but I felt really comfortable here. Book ahead if you can. It's a small place, and locals who know it reserve tables. The food photos in other reviews don't do the dishes justice, probably because the lighting isn't great for pictures. The meal was delicious and made with care.

Make a reservation before you go, since it's packed every night. Calling ahead for the next day usually works, though. The food at La Taverna del Metallo was creative and delicious, and the staff were so warm and cheerful that the service felt flawless. Metal music plays, but the cozy, welcoming atmosphere works even if you're not a fan of the genre. If you're in La Spezia, even for one night, I'd make time for this place.

The food and beer were so good that we went back to the tavern twice during our three nights there. It was easy to reserve, and the service was great. I think it's the best restaurant in the area. Other places seemed too touristy or not as good, and this one has a beer selection among the best I've seen. Most of the menu is pork, so it's not a place for vegans or vegetarians. I don't eat pork, but still found enough great options to leave full and happy. I was staying in one of the rooms upstairs.
