Nautilus Hotel

After our stay at Hotel Nautilus, I can say it's a little gem. Rosanna and Francesco were warm and welcoming, and made us feel at home. The hotel is in an apartment building with nine rooms, and the clean smell on our floor stood out as soon as we arrived. Our room was welcoming and thoughtfully set up; I'd asked for two single beds instead of a double. It had a small fridge, plus a kettle with instant coffee and tea bags. The modern bathroom was brand new and very clean. Towels were changed every day, too. Breakfast had a wide choice: fresh and dried fruit, cheese, ham, cakes, biscuits, cornflakes, honey, and jams. There were dispensers for juice, still and sparkling water, coffee, hot chocolate, and mochas. The fridge also had milk, yogurt, and soy milk. Since I'm lactose intolerant, I asked for soy milk, and Rosanna frothed it for me each morning. The location is handy: 15 to 20 minutes on foot to the center, 15 minutes to the pier for boats to Cinque Terre and Porto Venere, or a 15-minute bus ride to the train station. The bus stop is very close, and you can also get to the station easily from the center. We stayed August 6 to 10 with my daughter and a friend while visiting Cinque Terre and stopping in La Spezia. I chose the hotel after reading some reviews, and had already liked Rosanna over the phone. It's good value for money, with attentive service, meticulous cleanliness, and professionalism. We found the place simple, very clean, and comfortable. Our room was spacious for the three of us, a couple and a teenager. The welcome was warm, and we got great advice for visiting Cinque Terre. The lady even helped carry our luggage. It's ideally located, with easy parking outside.

We were disturbed by a lot of noise, with loud conversations late at night and again early in the morning. The room service was poor as well: the towels and sheets were stained, which isn't acceptable. When we arrived, we found that our room had no bathroom or shower. They were private, but located separately in the hotel lobby, among the other rooms, so people were constantly coming and going. This hadn't been clearly explained during booking.

Simple, welcoming, clean, and comfortable, with very good value for the price. The staff are always ready to help. Really good.
