Agriturismo Podere Doglio

Elena, the owner, was so kind and attentive, and cooked us simple, delicious meals. Breakfast was superb, with homemade jams and lovely pastries. Agriturismo Podere Doglio was clean, warm and welcoming, surrounded by untouched nature and quiet. We spent two days there and had a wonderful time in a truly unique setting. Elena and Enrico welcomed us like family. Their warmth, sensitivity and knowledge made conversation a real pleasure. The food deserves a mention of its own: original recipes made with the wonderful produce from their garden. My husband and I spent three unforgettable days in a paradise created by Elena. Though it sits in unspoiled countryside, the agriturismo is close to some beautiful places. Over the years, Elena has patiently grown rare trees and plants that were at risk of disappearing. Her remarkable “garden of simples,” with aromatic and medicinal plants, brings to mind medieval and Renaissance convents and courtyards. It was such a special experience that we’ll return again.

A friend brought me to this vegetarian farmhouse in the woods of the Parma Apennines. The quiet was palpable, and I slept wonderfully. The owner said the beds are arranged with the head facing north and feet south, following Feng Shui principles. The old building has original period furniture and a park around it. I especially liked the collection of rose bushes from around the world. Everything felt very clean, breakfast was plentiful, and the owner was extremely kind and helpful.

We were cold, and the lady's answer was to tell us to turn on the shower so the adjacent room would heat up. It made for a nightmare evening. The furnishings felt wartime, and there was so much clutter outside. Never again. Too bad I didn't take photos. After reading the reviews, I figure you need an analyst. The photos don't match, at least not from the past five years. The road is more like a lumberjack track than a road for cars, and the place felt cold and damp. I'll leave it there, since any more would probably sound like too much.
