San Ruffino Apartments

The location is pleasant and handy for exploring Tuscany, but this place needs maintenance and some upgrades. Our spacious unit had a very narrow spiral staircase to the upstairs bedroom, which made taking luggage up and down awkward. The old paving stones on the walkway are broken and spaced apart, so rolling suitcases to the unit was difficult. The gravel and dirt access road is narrow, bumpy, and almost impossible to use when another car is coming the other way. It should be widened and paved, or at least leveled out. The pool itself is nice, though the tiles along its edge were dirty and needed cleaning. After the first night, we noticed hornets in the bedroom and found a nest on a roof beam. We reported it, and the owner promptly sent someone to remove the nest. We also had a slow-draining shower that filled up, and lots of drain moths in the unit. We killed at least 20. We reported those problems too, and I assume someone came to check, but they weren't resolved very successfully.

We had a good stay as a family, and the apartment had all the comforts. It could use some maintenance, though, and mosquito screens would help keep insects out. The staff were very helpful, even though we never saw anyone in person since all our communication was through WhatsApp. I'd happily stay here again.
