Even on a Sunday it was busy, but I liked the lively feel. There’s a market by the lake and some nice shops.

Lecco is about 50Km from Milan, with a direct train from Porta Garibaldi that takes an hour. It’s also near Como, another lovely place to visit. The center is developing fast, and the lake “lago” is beautiful. The water’s nice for swimming, and people are always out enjoying the waves. There are plenty of restaurants and boats on the water. Just watch your feet if you swim, the stones are really sharp. The mountains around town are lush and green, with no restrictions on hiking. I love Lecco and visit two or three times every month, on my own.

I visited for the day from Bergamo and had a great time walking around the town. It’s a lovely little place, the locals are friendly, and the lake was superb. You can take a ferry from here to Bellagio!

A beautiful town with lovely locals and no big tourist crowds. The train from Milan is easy.
