Rifugio Marchett

We found it closed in the middle of summer. The website has a calendar, but no legend to explain it, so it’s impossible to tell when the place is open. I’d expected a rifugio, like in other parts of Europe, to stay open throughout the year regardless of the weather. Closing because of heavy rain feels especially awkward, since that’s when people in the mountains need shelter most.

The terrace has a magnificent view, and the people there were lovely. There were just two dishes on the menu; we tried both and really enjoyed them. The chef explained what he was making, and we were able to chat in English. Two meals, sparkling water, and coffee came to €21 altogether.

The place itself is beautiful, but the staff were terrible. We came as a family for lunch and were told at 11:30 on a Sunday that they had no food left. We tried to get at least coffee and tea instead, and were directed to a table on the terrace. After waiting 30 minutes, nobody came to take our order. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it.

The rabbit was delicious, but service was unfriendly. We waited nearly an hour for both a place and our food, even though it didn’t seem very busy. The taste is what earns it three points. Prices are shown in the photo.
