Hotel Sirenetta

Sirenetta is a cozy family-run hotel on the promenade at Lido di Ostia, handy for the beach and with plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are comfortable, and the street-side ones have a great sea view and lovely sunsets. There’s a good range of food at the buffet breakfast, and the staff were always attentive and courteous. The railway station is about a 10-minute walk away, half a mile or 800m.

I liked the design and interior, which felt stuck in the past. But I was disappointed by how I was treated as a young woman traveling alone. Women travel independently, work hard, and can afford to explore and stay wherever they choose. A guest shouldn’t be judged or questioned because of age or gender. Hospitality should mean respect, professionalism, and inclusion. I hope the management thinks about this. The hotel has potential, but making every traveler feel welcome and respected matters just as much as its design and location.

It may look a little chaotic when you first arrive, but there’s a lot of charm underneath. It’s family-run, with none of the corporate-style rooms or service, and that’s part of why it felt faultless to me. My room and en suite shower room were very clean, and breakfast had more than enough to eat and drink. The team were extremely accommodating with requests, especially since I arrived late on New Year's Eve and needed a taxi the next morning. There’s a lovely little lift, and I liked the book-swap table in the bedroom corridor. I’ll be back!

The room was clean, with nice sea views and spacious terraces. Breakfast was more than basic, and the croissants filled with vanilla bean custard cream were delicious, as were the homemade juice and cappuccino. Grazie you for the warm hospitality.
