The central location and the ocean view from the right room are real pluses. Breakfast was good, in a traditional Italian style, and both the check-in team and breakfast staff were pleasant. There’s a nice restaurant and a rooftop view too. My room’s bathroom could use a little refurbishment to make it perfect.

Both our rooms had a complimentary bottle of Prosecco waiting, a lovely touch. They were huge, and I think they’ve been refurbished since my last stay. A few small things still need attention from maintenance or housekeeping, but nothing enough to lose a star over. We had a large balcony and a beautiful sea view. The rooftop restaurant upstairs was fantastic. Breakfast is the usual enormous Italian buffet, with hot and cold food, cakes, cheese, and Buck’s Fizz. The staff are as great as always.

This is a striking historic hotel with long ties to Livorno, a former palace turned into refined accommodation. The rooms are elegant, spacious, and comfortable, and the front desk team were wonderfully helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was tasty and high quality. A good pick if you’re after heritage, comfort, and excellent service.

This was my second visit. The hotel calls itself five-star, but I can’t see how the ratings work in Italy because this doesn’t feel like a five-star place. It is nice, and I stay mainly because it’s next door to my best friend’s house. The rooms are a good size and the beds are comfortable. Bathrooms have everything you need, but it’s all very old. I dislike showering over a bath, and that’s the only option I’ve seen. The towel rail at the end of the bath is more rust than chrome. The fittings work, but they’re dated, and the drain is slow. Paint is peeling around the building. Breakfast has an okay selection, though it could be better. The breakfast staff are all friendly, helpful, and cheerful. Most of reception are friendly and professional, but one person was just unfriendly to me. You work in hospitality, so be nicer! I don’t know if I did something to cause a problem, but???
