The site is described like a five-star campsite, but I'd give it two at best. They charge extra for a supposedly better pitch that's just farther from the road, and the traffic is incredibly loud at night, along with trains and the nearby airport. It doesn't quiet down overnight. There are lots of youth groups who stay up shouting and throw footballs at your tent. The ground is rocky, so it's hard to get tent pegs in. I wouldn't recommend it.
The facilities are very clean and in good condition, but the pitch we paid for on the second line was tiny. Our caravan is only about 3-4 m long, yet we couldn't even open the tent. Other pitches at the same price were bigger, so who knows how that works. The pitches by the water are the only ones that really suited us. Also, the voltage is so low that using a kettle is difficult.
It's a mix of camping pitches and bungalows, with public transport into town easy to reach. The best part is the setting on a cliff beside the mediterrane, with easy access to the Coast.
We couldn't enjoy the place at all, and I can't recommend it. There were loads of mosquitoes, and the “beach” is really a stone slab, which may be typical of this coastline. For comfort you have to rent a lounger and umbrella, €5 each, or carry your own chairs down the steps and put up with being “judged.” We rented them once, but a longer stay would add €15 a day to the campsite cost. The bathrooms were okay. We skipped the restaurant because it didn't look appealing and the lighting was hideous. Noise was a major problem during our two nights in a camper. Many pitches are less than 10m from the busy main road into Livorno. Moving to the second row after the first night barely helped. In at least the first three rows, traffic was so loud during the day you couldn't hear each other speak, let alone sleep easily. Livorno is about a 10km bike ride away. As mountain bikers without e-bikes, the distance was no issue for us, but the city seemed possibly the ugliest I've ever seen, and the bike routes there were a disgrace.
The beach is rocky, but that's nobody's fault. We found the campground quiet, and neither the nearby road nor the rail bothered us. We stayed in a clean, spacious bungalow/mobile home, which was great while it rained a lot, and could sit on the covered patio. Washing machines were available too. The reception team was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was good, with staff who tried to make our stay pleasant. The mini mart was our main food source. Its selection was limited but good, and the staff there were also very friendly and helpful. Bus stops are close by, though there's a bit of a learning curve with the buses. I'd come back and recommend this campground.
