B&B Alma

The breakfast was the standout: a freshly prepared mix of sweet and savory dishes, fruit, and coffee, served to us. I’ve never had such a good B&B breakfast. Daniele even surprised my girlfriend with a little birthday cake and candle after breakfast. We hadn’t told him it was her birthday; he noticed it on her ID at check-in. He’s a fantastic host, considerate, and funny, and speaks fluent English, which made things easy since I don’t speak Italian. Alma is a beautiful B&B just a few minutes from Lucca’s center. Our room was spotless, with a private modern bathroom and great shower, a small fridge, and a comfortable bed. The windows kept street noise out very well, and all guests can use the large outdoor terrace. We highly recommend Alma B&B to anyone passing through Lucca, and wish Daniele and his team all the best.

We were just passing through Lucca on the way from Pisa airport to Assisi, and the owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is conveniently placed, with a Lidl next door and a large shopping center opposite. Parking across the road was free and easy. We’ll book again when we come to see Lucca.

We were a family of four and stayed for two nights in the last week of July, after traveling around Italy for ten days. This was the worst place I’ve ever stayed. Both nights the room had no electricity, even though I could see the surrounding area had power from the window. Imagine spending a hot night with two little kids and no fan or AC. The host claimed there had been the biggest storm in Italy’s history, but I couldn’t find anything online to confirm that. We eventually reached him on WhatsApp and reported the outage. He said he’d come and fix it, and somehow it was restored only around 6:45 in the morning, after about 30 minutes. Since it happened both nights and nobody even apologized, I’m sure they were deliberately turning the power off. We’d paid for breakfast, advertised as full breakfast, but what we got was fixed and limited, and not something we wanted to eat. There were two pieces of toast and a tiny portion of scrambled eggs that seemed made from just two eggs and split among four of us, plus four or five small, tasteless bruschetta pieces. The hot drinks were barely warm, gone in one sip. We skipped breakfast the next morning and took the kids elsewhere. A couple at the next table didn’t eat anything either, and when they asked for another coffee, they were told it would cost an extra 2.50 euros. A completely appalling experience, and it spoiled our whole trip because this was our last stop in Italy. I’d warn everyone to avoid this place at any cost. I wish I could give it zero, or even a negative rating.

Our room and bathroom were both roomy and comfortable, and the shower was nice. The B&B feels like it reflects the owner’s passion, and it’s a pleasant option near the city center. We had tasty breakfast on the relaxed terrace, with produce from the area and their own land. Highly recommended :)
