B&B Pergola House

Lucia, who runs the B&B, is the reason I gave it two stars. She's sweet, listens to what guests need, and tries hard to help. I paid 275€ for 4 nights, and don't feel it was worth it. The room had several problems. There's no shower cubicle, so the bathroom floor got wet every time I showered, as the carpet wasn't enough. There was no curtain, and the old shutters were difficult to open and close and left dust on my hands, so I had to change in the bathroom, which only has a small window. I could watch TV for just half a day in five days because the channels didn't come through properly. I was woken every morning by the doors, which aren't soundproof, and could sometimes hear other guests using the bathroom or water at night. Cleanliness could be better too. There was dust on the cupboard shelves and the toilet brush wasn't fully clean. I didn't feel safe coming back in the evening because Piazza Romano is somewhat isolated and dark, and a homeless person lives under the portico of the church opposite. The ground-floor furniture is old and needs renovating. With a large suitcase, the lack of a lift is a problem, especially since the stairs are old and narrow.

A nice place to stay. The second bed was up in a loft, breakfast was nice, and they let us use their refrigerator.

The service was excellent, and breakfast was good. It’s also close to the town centre, so it worked really well as a starting point for the Camino.

Lucia is the heart of this B&B. She was warm, welcoming, and professional, and we quickly felt we had a friendly connection with her. The breakfast was generous and varied, with sweet and savory items from a well-known Lucca pastry shop. We stayed six nights and found the location ideal, just steps from Lucca’s center and walls. The rooms, including the single room, were spacious, quiet, and well maintained. We’d absolutely come back.
