We were recommended a restaurant and a sight to see by the hosts, and both were great. The staff are wonderful and the service feels personal. It’s close to the walled city, and I’d recommend it if you like a quiet place to stay.

The main problem was check in. They say it’s available until 7pm, but you have to call beforehand to arrange a time to collect the key, also before 7pm. Calling internationally is difficult, and they didn’t answer the phone. It felt like the guest had to work around the receptionist’s availability. If your travel is delayed for any reason, you could lose the room for that night. We reached the city around 10pm and called, but they said we’d missed check in and there was nothing more they could do. We understood it was a B&B and were willing to take a taxi to collect the keys anywhere, but that wasn’t offered. Luckily we had a friend in town and slept on their floor. I can imagine how stressful that would be for someone without that option. The building dates to the 1900’s and is chic and clean, but our room smelled musty and humid. Breakfast had extremely few choices and no hot food. It was about 1/2 mile on foot to the main city walls. If your flight might be delayed, don’t book here.

Thanks so much to the owner for a really nice stay in Lucca. The B&B is in a lovely place, perfectly located near the wall of the old town, about 10 minutes walking. Our room was great, very clean and comfortable, and breakfast was generous with tasty products. I highly recommend it.

My son and I came for my 60th birthday, and we weren’t disappointed. The hosts and staff were so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. They picked us up when we arrived and took us back to the train station when we left. It’s one of those lovely old Art Deco villas, about a 15 minute walk from the walled town. Our room was a decent size and cleaned to a good standard each day. There’s an outdoor sitting area too. The weather wasn’t great, so we couldn’t use it, but I’m sure it’s lovely to sit there when the weather’s good. I’d thoroughly recommend Lucca in Azzurro and would stay again next time I’m in beautiful Lucca.
