The host was a five-star part of our stay, and following their advice helped us have a great time nearby. We loved the house’s vintage look and how we were treated. It was clean and welcoming. There is a main road not far away, though, and that would bring down my rating.

After deciding to cancel, we couldn’t get a cab to come out, so we waited an hour until either the owner’s husband or a friend kindly drove us to the nearest train station. It was an extremely uncomfortable situation, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place feels completely in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around it, and it was a nightmare to reach. We had to take a taxi, and even our driver said it was a bad area to stay in. When we arrived, we were told to pay a €150 damage deposit through a website. That seemed strange after months of travel without ever being asked for this, and we were told it was because she had no insurance. The owner couldn’t speak English, so her friend translated. We offered to pay the deposit in cash but not through the website, and they started yelling. She was clearly unhappy and refused.

The hostess was very friendly and welcoming, and the location is handy, close to the center of Lucca. I only needed one night, so I booked the cheapest option. The price seemed reasonable, but tourist taxes and a possible €10 dog fee weren’t included. That felt misleading since the search results made it look like the cheapest offer. After booking, they asked for a €100 deposit, from which taxes, the dog fee, and any damage would be deducted. The rest was refunded promptly, on the day we checked out. The room was large, with a shared kitchen and bathroom. The furnishings are somewhat dated, especially the bed, whose mattress needs replacing. It’s also very close to the road, so it isn’t particularly quiet.

We paid the full room cost in advance and didn’t ask for a refund, given how unpleasant the place was. It’s advertised as a B&B, but it looks out onto some kind of ring-road ramp. We arrived, were treated rudely from the outset, turned the car around, and left without using our stay. After reading the response to my review, please keep showing that same kindness.
