A great hotel just outside Lucca’s wall. Parking costs depend on the option: green is free, blue is 8€/day, and red is 10€/day, provided by the host.

The location and air conditioning were the positives. Otherwise, this felt like a total rip-off: no service, and not worthy of the great composer Puccini’s name. The room was plain and very poorly decorated for € 110 for 1 night, and there wasn’t even breakfast. The bedside light gave more light than the only bulb in the main light. The agreed reception time kept getting delayed, and at check-in the agreed price was changed. We were told, ‘Go find another place if it’s not okay’. That’s no way to treat a pilgrim needing somewhere to stay in a city completely booked because of the music festival.

Giuseppe was an excellent host. The house is quiet, clean, and simple, and just a couple of minutes’ walk from Porta Donato. For a reasonable price, it’s about as close as you can stay to the centre of Lucca.
