Villa Anna

We probably wouldn’t return to Lucca, but we enjoyed this cute B&B. Having breakfast set out in the kitchen felt like visiting family.

As my girlfriend and I were leaving Lucca, we agreed that Max deserved the best review we could write. He welcomed us so warmly from our first contact, and the room was even better than the one we’d booked. Breakfast was good, too, and Max took the time to explain what was worth seeing in Lucca and what wasn’t. We were more than satisfied. If we ever come back to Lucca, Max, siamo tuoi ospiti!

The bedrooms keep their original charm, while the spacious rooms have been modernised and come with excellent bathrooms. The tasteful decor continues through the public areas, and the beds have high-quality mattresses and linens. There’s a mini-bar, rain shower, private parking behind the hotel, and a secure main entrance. We got a friendly welcome, and it was good value. An excellent B&B, well placed a short walk outside the city walls. Recommended.

The room itself was superb and had everything we needed, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The house doesn’t seem built for use as a hotel: the doors and walls are so thin we could hear everything. Opening the window at night didn’t bring quiet either, with traffic going until early morning. When we asked for help reserving a restaurant table, the response was an unfriendly, “It’s closed.” We were also told to move our car even though it was parked neatly within the markings. It was okay, but those things put us off.
