The place was clean, and we had hot water, but the room was very small, with tiny wooden beds and rough white walls. It had a convent-like feel. It was also cold and musty, as if it hadn't been opened for some time. The hotel is very old, so if you like things austere, this may suit you. The greeting was another issue for me: I expect some friendliness at a hotel, but we didn't get a hello or even a good evening. It almost felt spiteful. Where your room is makes a difference. The back is fine, while the front faces a fairly busy highway. For an overnight stay, I also found the price too high for this kind of room.

The furnishings and look are straight out of the 1960s, though each room has air conditioning and a smart TV. Cleanliness gets a 10 from me. It has an American motel feel. After checking in, you reach the rooms from outside through hanging doors, which gives you plenty of privacy.

There's hot water in the bathroom right away, which is a real help when you're in a rush, and breakfast was good. The rooms are clean and, at least upstairs, spacious. The building has a pleasant feel and seems well looked after, though I think it dates from the 1980s or 1990s. It's handy if you're going to the Magione racetrack, just a three-minute drive away. The downside is the location beside a busy provincial road. In hot weather, sleeping with the windows open is difficult. The electrical system also feels dated, and finding a socket to charge your phone can mean unplugging a bedside lamp.

The breakfast had plenty to choose from, sweet and savory, and the homemade cakes were delicious. We spent a week in Umbria, staying at a hotel surrounded by greenery with a lovely garden and pool. The staff were welcoming, the rooms were clean, and the mattress was really comfortable. We'd definitely come back on another trip to Umbria.
