Casale Sterpeti

This is our second time here, and we’ll keep coming back. My husband loves visiting Saturnia hot springs, which is about a 40-minute drive away. The journey between the two is well worth the time, with some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. Casale Sterpeti is a lovely, aesthetic place, modern and cosy, with a serene view and delicious breakfast. The staff are welcoming and attentive.

The hotel is far from everything, and when we needed help, the staff were unavailable. That lack of basic support made the stay difficult from the start. At check-in, we specifically asked whether dinner restaurants needed to be booked ahead. We were told clearly that they didn’t, so we trusted that advice. That evening, every restaurant in town was fully booked and we couldn’t get a table anywhere. With no other option, we returned hungry and frustrated. There was nowhere nearby to buy even basic food. There was no staff on site. When we finally reached someone, all we got was, “What do you want us to do? It’s already 10:30 PM…” Misleading information, no support and such an inconvenient location made for a very disappointing, unacceptable experience.

The grounds are beautiful, and the bright, modern minimalist rooms were very nice. Breakfast was lovely and the service was very good overall. The downside was the heavy, noisy traffic right outside the hotel, which carried on at night. I was woken several times.

We spent the evening on our room patio looking out over the Tuscan hills, sipping wine as the sun went down. In the morning, we lingered over coffee and the peaceful view. We also had a lovely dinner in historic Magliano, inside the fortress walls, at one of Simone's recommended restaurants. The homemade local breakfast was a treat, and the room had everything we needed to feel looked after. The Tuscan farmhouse touches made the place feel lovely and welcoming. It was spotless, easily a 10+, and the views across the winery and hills were breathtakingly peaceful.
