Villa Acquaviva Wine Resort

The wines were good, and the local dishes served alongside them were nice. Bottles were also reasonably accessible to buy. We booked the tasting on the website for 20 euros per person, then were welcomed into the historic buildings and a beautiful courtyard. The visit itself was less impressive: we only saw the old cellar, now used mostly for storage, and couldn't learn about or see the production process. The woman hosting us was very hospitable.

The internet was the hardest part for me. There was no connection in the rooms and it was very weak even in the common areas. They do tell you there isn't room internet, but I had to work during the stay, so it was a struggle. I managed by using my phone hotspot outside and working from the pool. If you can go a few days without internet, it might be nice to disconnect. The rooms seemed a bit dated and the beds weren't very comfortable. During the tasting we learned that the rooms in the Villa, where we stayed both times, were the first rooms used as hotel rooms. That explains some of it. In our room on the second visit, plugs were coming out of the wall. The mattresses are spring ones, so maybe newer rooms are more comfortable. Still, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is remote, in a beautiful spot surrounded by vineyard views, and they left a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Breakfast had lots of options, and Saturnia was only a few minutes away by car. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, especially the receptionist who was always smiling and gave us great recommendations. We liked it enough to return while road-tripping back north through Italy after going nearly all the way south. Cristiana at reception, I hope I spelled that right, and the Romanian woman at breakfast, whose name we forgot to ask, welcomed us back warmly. She even remembered how I like my coffee and milk. We also got to do a wine tasting on the second visit, partly why we came back, and Cristiana did a fantastic job. Thank you to the whole team. These stays were some of the biggest highlights of our trip. (We were there in early September.)

The vineyard is absolutely stunning, and the food and wine were great. Service was great too. We'd definitely recommend staying here, and we plan to come back.
