Camping La Rocca

The top tier of the Belvedere had fantastic views of the bay, and we had a wonderful week there. You’re apart from the rest of the campsite, connected by a tunnel. Getting to the facilities means a long walk up and down steps, which was a drawback, especially during the huge storm we had. The facilities are top class, with electrical points for your own hairdryer and large showers with warm water. The temperature fluctuated between hot and lukewarm every time we used them, even though we didn’t touch the tap. We’d still return without hesitation.

We paid €84.60 for three nights, including city tax. It was two of us in a two-person tent with a car, without electricity. We had the nicest neighbours, and the lake was less than a minute’s walk away, with amazing views. The bathrooms are clean and modern, and there’s also a swimming pool if you don’t feel like swimming in the lake. Between the low price and the views, we think it deserves five stars.

The camping spots were decent and shaded, and the buildings were clean and new. But this wasn’t really the kind of campsite we wanted. There were lots of parties going on well past the time when it should have been quiet. We’d hoped to do activities in the morning, but couldn’t because we hadn’t slept enough. We decided to go to a different lake and didn’t get our money back, as they’d said in advance when we booked.

The houses and bathrooms were in good condition, and I was very satisfied with the stay. The cleaners’ work was the most important thing to me. But something about the place left me uneasy. I usually leave tips for the cleaning staff. I asked one cleaner about the job and we got to talking about tips. She said they hadn’t found anything inside the house. I’d left €10 for each day the day before. Then friends who’d holidayed there earlier told me there’s a rumour that the owner collects all the tips customers leave for the women who spend all day keeping the houses and toilets clean. I keep wondering, are the tips for the owner or for them? Is that fair? If I wanted to tip the owner, I’d hand it in at reception. I guess I should give tips directly to the cleaners. This is the only thing making me think twice about coming back. I just don’t like that kind of behaviour.
