Villa Berrettini

Being near the cemetery was one thing, but the villa itself was dirty and untidy, like something from a horror movie. The booking photos and the actual place were completely different. We found a cracker on the table beside the bed, and the linen was old and dirty. We had paid in advance, but couldn't stay. You could only come and go with her permission, and not at night.

The pool was nice, and breakfast was great.

We were there on a business trip and had booked two double rooms for single use, with private bathrooms and double beds. We got neither arrangement: one room had two single beds, and the other had a double, but its bathroom was out in the hallway. We also couldn't come and go freely. You had to call the lady and ask permission first, and we felt practically locked in. She seemed kind and friendly, but I wouldn't be reassured by that. The place was hard to see behind thick vegetation and a huge fence, next to a cypress-lined road and a cemetery. It was dark, with no outside lighting. Inside, the rooms didn't match the photos or listed amenities, which looked 25-30 years old. There was a heavy smell covered up with air fresheners, and the air didn't feel clean. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere, with fingerprints on the coffee maker, TV and bedside tables. The coffee maker's tank and water had mold in them. The desk had omelette stains, and blackened sugar was on the floor and desk. The carpet was filthy and stained, with dead insects on it, and there was dust all over the floor. The rooms had no heat or air conditioning. It was so cold that our breath showed when we spoke. The showers couldn't be used because there was no hot water, so we couldn't wash. The bathroom had old, crusted yellow urine stains around the edges. We contacted Booking.com as soon as we saw how different the villa and rooms were from the photos, and called the property too. They denied the rooms hadn't been cleaned. We said we'd leave the next day and respectfully asked for a refund for the nights we wouldn't stay, but she refused. We paid €380 for two nights in those conditions. A stable would have cost less and been cleaner. The lady said our complaints were the work of the devil and that someone had sent us to harm her. After we left, she privately sent threats, including, "I am light" and "don't stand against God's children because God will make you pay." Be careful.

My wife and I are fairly adaptable, but we still felt uncomfortable, and only stayed because we arrived late. The rooms and bathroom were dirty, the pool is best left unmentioned, and the garden is run down. The photos aren't accurate. I feel sorry for the lady, who was kind and helpful, but that doesn't make the place suitable for public use. I strongly advise against staying here.
