Hotel Gabbiano

The staff were really kind and the service was excellent. We ended with an amazing chocolate cake and a macchiato. The grilled fish was mixed: the prawns were good, but some fish arrived cold and seemed to have been cooked earlier. The red tuna we ordered afterward was probably the worst I've had, cold and tasting off. Every table in the restaurant has an incredible view of the sea and cliffs.

It's a bit dated inside, but the location more than compensates. Having parking close by was handy too.

I was here in May 2017, when things were quiet and the beach was practically to yourself. Rates were great then, the sun was out, though the sea was still cool. The views are lovely and the pool area is great, but the beach is pebbly rather than sandy. Sea view rooms are well worth getting: they all have balconies. Inside, the room was clean, with a small shower and rickety but comfortable beds. There's a bar fridge too. Breakfast was the usual continental spread, cold meats and cheese, pastries, fresh and stewed fruit, yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, coffee and a choice of tea. Staff were friendly and helpful. A really relaxing stop after the busy Amalfi coast, highly recommended.

The bed was very uncomfortable, which was my one complaint. Otherwise, the hotel sits in a lovely, peaceful beachfront cove, with attentive, friendly staff dressed beautifully. The breakfast buffet was wonderful.
