La Casa di Ora

We loved the setting, with the estate’s beautiful grounds and walks, and it’s easy to get to Otranto from here. The owner and staff were wonderful, and the restaurant La Gramola served excellent traditional food at very reasonable prices. Our apartment had a lovely terrace, and the room rate was good. It’s a no-frills place with basic rooms, but it had what we needed. Breakfast came with homemade jams; I would have liked a small savory choice, even as an extra. The air conditioning was only in the bedroom, so it struggled to cool the other rooms. Fortunately, we had a cool week. I’d happily come back.

Lucia’s kindness and helpfulness over the phone were a big part of why I decided to book. We had a very positive stay, and the B&B is good value for money. A couple of changes could make the offering feel more complete. Breakfast was a little too minimal for me, and hot options like croissants or muffins would be a welcome addition. It would also be useful to have a covered shared space with tables and chairs, or a small communal kitchen, where guests could prepare food and relax in the evening. These seem like feasible improvements. Thanks again for the hospitality, from Domenico and family.

The breakfast felt disappointing for the price and the standard of the place. Bread, toast, jam and two small pieces of cake seemed too little, especially in the countryside, where I’d have expected some savory choices like an egg, cheese, tomato and oil. Sweet food alone gets tiring after two or three days. We also heard staff talking quite often, since the kitchen and restaurant are right across from the rooms, so it’s not ideal if you like to sleep in. The grounds are lovely, with a big garden, pine forest and free parking. The rural atmosphere, with crickets, rustling trees and clean air, was a pleasure, and Otranto is only about ten minutes away. Our double room was a good size and practical, clean, and had working air conditioning and strong hot water. Towels were changed every two days. The food at the restaurant was fresh, authentic and very tasty, though prices were medium-high. Staff were kind and polite, but not always very communicative.

We’ll definitely return to this peaceful place. The welcome was kind and pleasant, and attentive without ever being intrusive. Our dog Artù seemed just as happy as we were, enjoying long walks in the morning and evening through the countryside and along the farm roads lined with holm oaks. La Casa di Ora has been carefully renovated in keeping with local traditions, and still retains its original features. The rooms were clean, comfortable and welcoming. Olive groves, holm oaks and the surrounding nature, with all their colors and scents, make the property feel magical. We also enjoyed the excellent food at the nearby La Gramola restaurant. In the next building, the Le Costantine artisan weaving workshop makes very high-quality products. This farmhouse will stay in our hearts.
