La Locanda delle Donne Monache

I wish we’d booked more than one night. This beautiful, unusual hotel feels like stepping back in time, almost like being in a Disney castle, and the rooms are full of character. The views are stunning, the pool was clean, breakfast was great with gluten-free options, and the staff were incredibly helpful. Service was among the best we had in three weeks in Italy. The restaurants and bars are a short but steep walk away, and the walk up to the statue of Christ is a workout if you fancy it. Some people may find the rooms and bathrooms dated if they expect modern surroundings, but I loved the charm and beauty.

The breakfast could use more savory options. There are so many sweet things that people who do musculation have less choice. Otherwise, the service was really good: staff helped park the car, carried our luggage down and back up, and were welcoming and cheerful. The hotel is visible from much of central Maratea, and you can see the statue from the pool too. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the center, with private parking included in the room price. The pool and Jacuzzi have great views. Good place to stay, I recommend it.

The pool was a treat after the long drive, and the room was so comfortable I’d have been happy to spend the evening in. We walked a short way down to the pretty town and had a nice meal. Everyone at this lovely hotel seems focused on customer service. We just wished we could’ve stayed longer.

The staff were all really lovely, and breakfast was top class. The pool and garden are very well kept, and the historic building has loads of character. It sits above town with great views across the valley. They kindly help with parking, which is useful with the narrow roads and access to parking. We loved it and would come back. This hotel was a highlight of our trip to Italy.
